Royal Courts of Justice accused of ‘complicity in the face of genocide’
Just Stop Oil activist arrested while posting letter through MP's door while another denied bail after peacefully blocking court

AN IMPRISONED Just Stop Oil (JSO) supporter accused the courts of being “complicit in the face of genocide” after they were denied bail.

Callum Goode has been put in prison on remand since March 6, after peacefully blocking the Royal Courts of Justice.

They took action to demand the government halt all licencing and consents for new oil, gas and coal projects, and to highlight the injustice of private injunctions.

On Thursday afternoon, they were denied bail at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

The activist is expected to remain remanded in HMP Wandsworth until April 16.

Speaking in court, they said: “I’m being held in prison not because I present a harm to anyone or am a danger to society, but because I refuse to stop being in non-violent civil resistance.

“This court does not care about morality, this court is blind and complicit in the face of genocide.”

A JSO spokesperson said that injunctions, which are typically used to protect someone from harassment, have been increasingly used against climate protesters to “circumnavigate the usual rule of law and land them with “astronomical” legal costs.

Goode’s court appearance came as another JSO supporter, Phoebe Plummer, was arrested while delivering a letter to MP Emily Thornberry asking her to commit to leaving the Labour Party if it fails to revoke Tory oil licences.

Ms Plummer was arrested for breaching bail conditions which prevent her from going to an MP’s residence.

In a video at the scene, she said: “Apparently this is the world we live in now. Getting arrested, literally for just posting a letter through to somebody’s house.”

It comes after she was detained on March 6 on suspicion of conspiracy to burgle and send malicious communication after the Daily Mail implied that she was plotting to occupy MPs’ homes.
