ISRAEL’S war on Palestinians in Gaza was in danger of escalating across the region as an exchange of fire along the border with Lebanon this morning left at least eight dead.

This comes as Israel continues to ignore demands from the international community for a ceasefire in Gaza.

An Israeli air strike on a paramedic centre linked to a Lebanese Sunni Muslim group in south Lebanon killed seven of its members early today sparking a Hezbollah rocket attack that killed one person in northern Israel, officials said.

The strike on the village of Hebbariye came after a day of air strikes and rocket attacks between Israel’s military and Hezbollah along the Lebanon-Israel border.

The border has been the scene of exchanges between Hezbollah and Israeli forces for the past five months since Israel launched its retaliation against the Palestinians for the October 7 surprise Hamas attack during which 1,200 people died and 250 were taken hostage.

Since then, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, at least 32,414 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces — about two thirds of the number being women and children.

The Israeli air strike hit an office of the Islamic Emergency and Relief Corps today, according to the Lebanese Ambulance Association. 

It was one of the deadliest single attacks since violence erupted along the border.

The association said that the strike was “a flagrant violation of humanitarian work.”

Muheddine Qarhani, head of the Emergency and Relief Corps, said that aid workers “were waiting to respond to a rescue call and ended up getting hit by missiles that brought the building over their heads.”

The Israelis said that it killed a member of Lebanon’s Sunni Muslim al-Jamaa al-Islamiya and several other fighters. 

Hours later, Hezbollah said that it retaliated against the air strike by firing dozens of rockets on this morning on the northern Israeli city of Kiryat Shmona and a military base there.

Meanwhile, Israel has continued to ignore the United Nations security council resolution demanding a ceasefire in Gaza.

Israeli tanks and armoured vehicles have continued to lay siege to the Nasser hospital in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis.

Gaza’s Health Ministry said that Israeli troops were bombarding the hospital with “shells and conducting violent raids in its surroundings in preparation for its storming.” 

The Palestinian Red Crescent reports that the al-Amal Hospital in Khan Younis was “out of service” after Israeli forces evacuated it and blocked the entrance.
