Crown Prosecution Service ordered to pay compensation to Webbe for misleading statements
CROWN prosecutors have been ordered to pay compensation to independent left MP Claudia Webbe for misleading statements made in the light of a court case.
The Independent Assessor of Complaints (IAC) has ruled that the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) must compensate Ms Webbe for false reporting of a court’s findings, which led to threats and a flood of hate speech.
The CPS falsely told the media that the court had said it “could not be sure” that Ms Webbe had made an acid threat to another woman, when the court had said it was sure that she had not made such a threat.
