Kane on target for Bayern but Arsenal rally to earn first-leg draw

Arsenal 2-2 Bayern Munich

A LATE Leandro Trossard equaliser means there is all to play for in the second leg of this absorbing Champions League quarter-final, after a 2-2 draw at Ashburton Grove on Wednesday evening.

An early Bukayo Saka opener after only 12 minutes put Mikel Arteta’s Gunners in the driving seat in front of a raucous crowd in north London.

However, former academy graduate Serge Gnabry swept home the leveller for the Germans only six minutes later.

Harry Kane then scored a penalty to put the Germans 2-1 up on 32 minutes — his 15th goal in 20 appearances against the Gunners and his 39th of his debut season with Bayern — after Arsenal centre-back Gabriel felled Leroy Sane.

The Gunners were fortunate not to concede a penalty, when Gabriel picked the ball up with his hands after the referee had signalled for a goal-kick to be taken.

Arsenal lacked their usual fluency, but, as the clock ticked down, Trossard slotted home after excellent work by Gabriel Jesus to make the score 2-2 on 76 minutes.

The Gunners also felt they should have had a penalty in the final seconds of stoppage time — but Swedish referee Glenn Nyberg waved away their appeals when Saka went down as he was challenged by keeper Manuel Neuer.

With no away goals counting, Arsenal have an excellent chance of progressing in the second leg in Munich next Wednesday (April 17) in what should be an enthralling clash deep in Bavaria.
