Parliamentary to consider debate on Ukrainian-style visa for Palestinians

A PETITION calling for a Ukrainian-style visa for Palestinians has crossed the 100,000-signature threshold for Parliament to consider it for debate.

The call by Gaza Families Reunited won the backing of 75 charities and law centres, Scottish First Minister Humza Yousaf and cross-party MPs.

“This is an incredible achievement that showcases the extent of solidarity in response to calls from members of the Palestinian community wishing to reunite with their loved ones here,” said the campaign group.

Gaza Families Reunited added that the huge support for the online petition would put pressure on the government to give the “right response,” after ministers said last December that they had no plans to introduce such a visa scheme.

Stand Up To Racism co-convener Sabby Dhalu has said that people having to call on the government to take action and create a visa scheme for Palestinians affected by the war “illustrates the racism in immigration and asylum policy,” since Britain had already done this for Ukrainians.
