PARCELFORCE: Leaking roofs are causing mould and threatening to turn company distribution sites into breeding grounds for Covid, the Communication Workers Union annual conference heard today.

Delegates unanimously passed a motion calling on the union to enter talks for sanitisers and or wet wipes to be made available in all areas where parcels are handled.

ROYAL MAIL: Part-time posties are effectively working full-time due to understaffing at the firm, the Communication Workers Union annual conference heard today.

A motion was passed calling on the union to enter talks for workers to be given full-time contracts, affording holiday pay that reflects the hours they actually work.

“This should define a period of time and frequency, where a part time employee has a temporary full time uplift, before it is made permanent,” it said.

PAYROLL: Royal Mail’s ageing IT systems inadvertently saved the Communication Workers Union from an “interestingly” divisive vote over Christmas pay at its annual conference today.

Parcelforce delegates had argued strongly for and against moving their December payday from just before Christmas to the end of the month.

The motion looked set for a knife-edge vote across Parcelforce branch delegates, but was withdrawn after CWU assistant secretary Davie Robertson said Royal Mail’s systems could only apply the changes to all workers paid monthly.
