Apsana Begum pays tribute to Bangladeshi community and allies in east London’s resistance to far right

APSANA BEGUM has paid tribute to the Bangladeshi community and “allies in east London’s resistance to far-right extremism and institutional racism” on the anniversary of the murder of Altab Ali.
Ali, a Bangladeshi textile worker, was stabbed to death in a racist killing in Whitechapel on May 4 1978.
It sparked widespread protests and led to the historic “battle for Brick Lane” and the organisation of an opposition movement to the far-right National Front with the foundation of the Anti-Nazi League and Rock Against Racism.
