Uganda takes in 10,000 displaced from DR Congo
UGANDA has started the process of taking in more than 10,000 people displaced from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), opening its southern border despite an outbreak of Covid-19 in both countries.
Its borders have reopened to allow entry to men, women and children who are fleeing from ethnic and sectarian violence in DRC’s northern Inturi province.
“In the next three, four or five days they [the refugees] should be arriving in Uganda. Right now, arrangements are being made to receive them,” Ugandan government minister for refugees Gerald Menya confirmed.
