STRIKES by bus drivers in Liverpool have been called off after bosses came back to the table with a new pay offer, Unite announced today.

More than 500 Stagecoach drivers were due to walk out for five days from tomorrow. 

Drivers had complained that their salary was £3,000 a year less than their counterparts at rival firm Arriva.

The walkouts would have coincided with Taylor Swift’s trip to Liverpool. The singer is due to perform over three nights from Thursday.

Unite regional officer Brian Troake commented: “The threat of industrial action has made Stagecoach see sense and come back to the table with a new and improved offer for our members that recognises their hard work and current low pay. 

“We have decided, as a goodwill gesture, to cancel the planned strikes later this month to allow the ballot to take place.”

If members choose not to accept the pay offer, strikes will be rescheduled over June 24 and 25.
