Pro-Palestine activists spray blood-red paint on Cambridge University graduation building

PRO-PALESTINIAN activists sprayed a historic Cambridge University building with blood-red paint on Saturday, demanding that it divest from firms linked to Israel’s war crimes in Gaza.

In collaboration with members of Palestine Action, students targeted Senate House, which is used for the university’s upcoming graduation ceremonies.

After the action, the protesters said the building “now reflects the Palestinian bloodshed which soaks the university’s financial records, research output and historical legacy.”

A spokesman for the group said: “Uni administration sit in ivory towers and don’t bat an eyelid at their involvement in the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

“The white pillars at Senate House prop up a legacy of white supremacy and colonialism which continues to this day through investments in and partnerships with arms companies.

“Cambridge’s graduation hall is stained with the blood of Palestinians — and now these stains have been made visible.”

A university spokesperson condemned it as an act of vandalism.

Students unaffiliated with the action set up a Cambridge for Palestine encampment outside King’s College on May 6.

Last week, pro-Palestine activists disrupted the St John’s College May Ball and hung a banner over the New Court building calling on the college to “divest from genocide.”

According to Cambridge for Palestine, at least three out of 31 colleges belonging to the university have invested £17 million in firms linked to Israel’s attacks on Palestine such as Caterpillar, Elbit Systems and Lockheed Martin and the number is thought to be much larger, but the university has not given full disclosure of the scale of its investments.
