A HACKNEY Labour councillor has resigned after being accused of sexually assaulting a child.
Former deputy speaker Lee Laudat-Scott, 48, appeared at Thames magistrates’ court on Thursday charged with “intentionally touching” a boy aged under 13 and sexually assaulting a man in Islington earlier this month.
He resigned as a councillor on Saturday, three days after a complaint about his conduct was made to the authority, the council said.
Mr Laudat-Scott represented London Fields and sat on the town hall’s children and young people’s scrutiny commission.
Hackney Mayor Caroline Woodley said: “I was horrified to hear of the allegations and subsequent charges.”
Leftwinger Sarah Byrne had previously been selected but was barred from standing for his seat by Hackney Labour Party’s internal Local Campaigns Forum.
She had spoken out against the investment of Hackney Council pension funds in Israeli arms firm Elbit Systems.
Mr Laudat-Scott was arrested on July 17 after an allegation was reported to police on July 9.
He was bailed to attend Snaresbrook Crown Court on August 15.
