Searchlight co-founder Gerry Gable dies

SEARCHLIGHT co-founder Gerry Gable has died at the age of 88.

A statement from the anti-fascist magazine posted yesterday said it is “with greatest sadness” that it announced Mr Gable died on Saturday night following a recent hospital admission.

“Gerry was one of the most important figures in post war anti-fascism, not just in this country but also internationally,” it said.

“Active in the 62 Group in the 1960s, he adopted their approach to intelligence-led anti-fascism and, with Maurice Ludmer, launched Searchlight as a magazine in 1975.

“It went on to enjoy 50 years of continuous publication until its transition online last year. From day one it was hated by the fascists and right-wing extremists.

“We will publish a full appreciation and obituary in due course and we will be announcing details of an event to mark his life and achievements.”
