SOLIDARITY will be on display this month in a special worker’s programme in a historic London cinema.
The Rio Cinema in Dalston, east London, will be hosting events and films which aim to highlight labour conditions and worker solidarity.
The Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain will take part in discussions after a screening of Ken Loach’s Bread and Roses, which tells the story of US janitors and their struggle to build a union.
The London Renters’ Union will join a conversation around renters’ rights for the 1974 film Behind the Rent Strike.
Other screenings at the 100-year-old Art Deco cinema include the Killer of Sheep (1979) and Un Dessert Pour Constance (1981), which tells the story of sweepers in the city of Paris.
Branded as a “season of low-cost cinema for trade union members,” tickets will be priced on a pay-what-you-can basis with a minimum of £2.
