Calls for transparency over latest Scottish Labour suspension
Scottish Labour's Foysol Choudhury arrives for registration at the Scottish Parliament in Holyrood, Edinburgh, May 10, 2021

ANAS SARWAR  is facing calls to be “transparent” over the reasons for Scottish Labour suspending its second MSP in two months.

Speaking on BBC Scotland’s Sunday show after suspending Lothian MSP Foysol Choudhury, Mr Sarwar said: “We have an independent complaints procedure, complaints go to that independent body.

“That independent body believes there is enough there to investigate, therefore we have suspended Foysol Choudhury while that investigation takes place and he will sit as an Independent MSP.”

But coming just weeks after the party suspended South of Scotland MSP Colin Smyth, who faces charges related to possession of indecent images, SNP MP Kirsty Blackman has demanded more the nature of the allegations against Mr Choudhury be revealed.

She said: “No-one is asking for full disclosure of every detail involving Foysol Choudhury, but voters have a right to know the basics.

“After the recent Labour Party scandals involving Peter Mandelson, Morgan McSweeney and Angela Rayner, voters expect transparency — not more cover-ups.

“This is becoming a question of integrity for Anas Sarwar and he must be honest with voters.”
