US Congress committee subpoenas Epstein estate in bid to expose political links

JEFFREY EPSTEIN’S estate has been subpoenaed on orders of the oversight committee of the US House of Representatives.

Members of Congress are pushing for broader disclosure of the paedophile billionaire’s finances and extensive political contacts, following accusations that the Donald Trump administration is trying to hide some of these.

Epstein, who was found dead in his cell in 2019 and is officially regarded as having killed himself, cultivated close links to powerful political figures, with Britain’s Duke of York Prince Andrew and Labour grandee — and current ambassador to the US — Peter Mandelson among those described as “particularly close” to him. In the US, his friendships with former president Bill Clinton and current President Donald Trump — both of whom at times used his private aircraft — is more explosive.

The subpoena asks Epstein’s estate to provide details on his finances, will and various personal possessions. President Trump had previously made much of Mr Clinton’s connection to him, but critics say he is now trying to conceal documents that point to his own ties.
