Striking workers rally at Scottish Water
The Scottish Water strike rally

MORE than 100 striking Scottish Water workers rallied at Govan’s Sheildhall works yesterday as their week-long strike entered its third day.

Unite, GMB, and Unison members took to the picket lines once again this week as the marathon pay dispute with the Scottish government-owned utility rumbles on.

Unite regional officer Sam Ritchie told the Morning Star: “We’re here because of the incompetence of management at this point.

“They don’t seem to know how to negotiate. It's an insult.”

GMB organiser Claire Greer said chief executive Alex Plant “seems to be making all the decisions behind the scenes but doesn't actually come into the pay talks.

“We need him at the table and showing some respect for our members.”

Addressing the rally, Unison Scotland convener Mark Ferguson called on the Scottish government to put the company into “special measures.”

STUC general secretary Roz Foyer said: “We cannot let Scottish Water management run this organisation into the ground, trashing the reputation of an organisation the people of Scotland fought to keep public.

“Stay strong, stand together — you will have our support. Keep fighting!”
