Top-ranked Halep crumbles to Garcia in Beijing

Caroline Garcia beat new world No 1 Simona Halep yesterday to claim the China Open.

The 23-year-old, fresh from winning the Wuhan Open last weekend, held her nerve for a thrilling 6-4 7-6 (7/3) victory.

Halep, who will top the rankings for the first time when they come out on Monday, required treatment on a leg injury early in the second set.
