TRADE unionists will “storm” the BT headquarters next week in protest at the company’s plans to outsource facilities and transfer staff.
Members of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) will demonstrate outside the central London office of the telecoms giant on Monday against its outsourcing of the facilities services division.
The company plans to transfer 1,700 employees to the ISS and CBRE companies, via a TUPE wage transfer.
The CWU says this represents a threat to the workers’ existing terms and conditions and a “mass betrayal” of “loyal” employees.
Protests against the decision were held at 14 BT offices across the country in the run-up to Christmas, which prompted discussions between workers and management.
However, little movement occurred, which has led the union to organise the demonstration.
The rally, which coincides with a workplace “consultation period,” aims to press management for an assurance that the new employers will maintain the same conditions and respect workers’ right to collectively bargain with bosses through recognised trade unions.
