Carlo Ancelotti plans to bring in fresh legs for trip to Newcastle

CARLO ANCELOTTI said he will rotate his side for tomorrow’s trip to Newcastle following a 1-0 victory against Burnley in his first game as Everton manager.

The Italian also hinted that he will be making moves in the transfer window, but won’t be thinking about signing new players until after their FA Cup clash with Liverpool on January 5.

The new Everton boss praised his players and thanked the Everton fans for their support following his debut in the dugout on Boxing Day, and is hoping for similar spirit when his side travel to St James’ Park.

“When you lose the support of this stadium it will be more difficult,” Ancelotti said ahead of the trip to the North-east.

“At Newcastle, the atmosphere will be really tough, but the spirit of the team will be the same.

“We have seen it in the games and in the training sessions, and we have to keep that same spirit.”

The former Chelsea and AC Milan manager kept the 4-4-2 shape used by caretaker boss Duncan Ferguson during his four games in charge but a slight tweak added extra impetus in attack.

Lucas Digne was asked to bomb forward down the left when Everton had the ball, with Bernard tucking inside as a No 10 behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison.

Right-back Djibril Sidibe operated in a more attacking role on the right, with Seamus Coleman covering behind.

That change led to the only goal against Burnley, as Sidibe crossed for Calvert-Lewin to head the winner, but there could be new personnel in today’s line-up.

“Maybe the players that didn’t play [against Burnley] might have to play on Saturday,” Ancelotti said.

“I have to rotate, 100 per cent.”

There have been suggestions that Ancelotti will look to sign a new forward in the January transfer window, but he said he is happy with this part of the team.

“Up front we are really good, but we won’t talk about [transfers] until the fifth of January,” he said.

“We are focused, and then we will see what we need or not.”
