Number of people affected by violence in South Sudan has surged, says the UN

THE number of people affected by violence in South Sudan surged by 35 per cent in the last three months of last year, according to the United Nations.
In a report published on Monday, the Mission in South Sudan (Unmiss) documents 233 incidents of violence affecting 862 people, of whom 406 were killed, 293 were injured, 100 were abducted and 63 subjected to conflict-related sexual violence.
This was a 35 per cent increase on the previous quarter.
