Dounreay workers to strike this week

MORE than 500 workers at Dounreay nuclear power station are set to strike this week in a battle against pay cuts.

Workers at the site overwhelmingly backed strike action last month, rejecting Nuclear Restoration Services’ (NRS) offer of a 4.5 per cent pay uplift and £500 in cash.

Their union, Unite, argues that with no pay rise since April 2023 and inflation running at 11.4 per cent over that period, it amounts to a real-terms pay cut while the highest-paid director at NRS — a subsidiary of the UK government’s Nuclear Decommisssioning Authority — has seen their pay rocket from £331,000 to £651,000.
