RWANDA: Six people have died from an outbreak of the Marburg virus, with the majority of victims being healthcare workers in the intensive care unit, the health minister said today.

Twenty cases have been identified since the outbreak was confirmed of the virus, which has a fatality rate of up to 88 per cent, on Friday.

 

GERMANY: A man was arrested today after allegedly setting two fires in the western city of Essen that left 30 people injured, and driving a van into two shops, authorities said.

Police said the man was a 41-year-old resident with Syrian citizenship and that he targeted the homes and shops of people who supported his wife as she left him.

 

SYRIA: The United States said today that it had killed 37 militants affiliated with Isis and an al-Qaida-linked group in two air strikes last week, with the dead including two senior militants.

US central command said in a statement that the airstrike will “disrupt Isis’s capability to conduct operations against US interests, as well as our allies and partners.”

 

SOMALIA: At least six people were killed and 10 injured on Saturday following explosions in the capital Mogadishu and a nearby town, suspected to be carried out by the Islamist militant group al-Shabaab.

The blast in Mogadishu involved a bomb-rigged car that was parked near the National Theatre, less than a mile away from the president’s office.
