VIETNAM: At least 14 people died and 176 were injured as Typhoon Yagi slammed the country’s north, as officials warned of continuing heavy downpours despite its waning power.

One of the most powerful typhoons to hit the region in the last decade, Yagi left more than three million people without electricity, damaged vital agricultural land and hundreds of flights were cancelled after four airports were closed.

LIBYA:  The country’s chief prosecutor has ordered the detention of a militia leader and one of his aides pending an investigation into the killing of one of the country’s most notorious human traffickers.

Mohamed Bahroun, commander of the First Support Battalion, and one of his associates turned themselves in on Saturday after allegations arose about their role in last week’s killing of Abdel-Rahman Milad in the capital Tripoli.

ALGERIA: Five years after pro-democracy protests sparked a military intervention that ousted the previous president after two decades in power, Algerians voted on Saturday to decide whether army-backed President Abdelmadjid Tebboune should get another term in office.

Mr Tebboune is expected to win the election easily, but the question is more about voter turnout.

UNITED STATES: Former president and current contestant Donald Trump has posted a warning on social media threatening to jail those involved in “unscrupulous behaviour” in November’s election, which he said would be under intense scrutiny.

He said: “When I win, those people that cheated will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, which will include long-term prison sentences so that this depravity of justice does not happen again.”
