TEACHERS at Darland High School in Wrexham entered the second day of strike action yesterday in a dispute over management practices.

NASUWT members at the school took strike action in March but the union claimed there had been insufficient progress in talks.

The dispute is about safety at work in what the union says are poorly maintained and potentially dangerous buildings and teachers are also concerned about excessive workloads and victimisation.

NASUWT Wales national officer Neil Butler said: “It is alarming that management expects teachers and pupils to take lessons in classrooms that are unsafe. 

“It is additionally unacceptable that they cannot execute effective behaviour management policies that are essential for teacher and pupil safety.

“The NASUWT will continue to support members as they fight for the safe and fair working conditions they are entitled to by law.”

A Wrexham Council spokesperson said: “The dispute is centred around a number of localised issues concerning working arrangements. Negotiations are ongoing.”
