COVENTRY EXHIBITION
75 Years: John Piper and Gustav Mezger
Herbert Art Gallery
Jordan Well
Until February 7
THE 75th anniversary of the Coventry blitz is marked in this special free exhibition of John Piper’s iconic paintings (pictured) of the ruins of Coventry Cathedral and a newly commissioned work from Gustav Mezger. A trio of Piper’s works depict the scene of the cathedral as he found it on the morning of November 15 1940 while working for the War Artists Advisory Committee painting war-damaged churches. Also on show is a new artwork by the internationally renowned Mezger, which explores the bombing of Coventry and the German city of Munster in the second world war.
