SUDAN: Paramilitary Rapid Support Forces targeted Khartoum and its main airport with drones for a fourth consecutive day yesterday, just as the airport was set to reopen after two years of war.

The Sudanese Armed Forces, aligned with the government, have been trying to resume air traffic after regaining control of the city.

Residents reported drones and surface-to-air missiles overhead before loud explosions shook the area.

IVORY COAST: Voters head to the polls today for presidential elections, with incumbent Alassane Ouattara seeking a fourth term, which would extend his rule to nearly two decades.

Mr Ouattara runs under the ruling Rally of Houphouetists for Democracy and Peace party with the slogan “For a Great Nation.”

Four weakened opposition parties are challenging him, while protests erupted after some candidates were disqualified, resulting in hundreds of arrests.

CANADA: US President Donald Trump announced he is ending “all trade negotiations” with Canada over a television ad opposing US tariffs, which he said misrepresented facts and aimed to influence US courts.

The ad, paid for by Ontario’s provincial government, features former President Ronald Reagan speaking against tariffs in 1987.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said he plans to double exports to countries outside the US because of the threat posed by Trump’s tariffs.

MIGRATION: A rubber dinghy carrying 18 people sank in the Aegean Sea off Turkey’s south-west coast yesterday, leaving at least 14 dead, officials said.

Two people survived, including an Afghan national, while search efforts continued for two others still missing.

The dinghy began taking in water shortly after leaving Bodrum, with one survivor swimming six hours to shore and another found on a nearby island.
