
POLAND: Authorities detained eight people in recent days on suspicion of preparing acts of sabotage in various locations across the country, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said today on X.
Tomasz Siemoniak, Poland’s minister co-ordinating special services, wrote on X that the actions Mr Tusk referred to involved “conducting reconnaissance of military facilities and critical infrastructure, preparing resources for sabotage and directly carrying out attacks.”
SLOVAKIA: A court today convicted Juraj Cintula, the man in last year’s attempted assassination of the country’s Prime Minister Robert Fico of a terror attack and sentenced him to 21 years in prison.
Mr Cintula opened fire on the prime minister on May 15 2024, as he was greeting supporters following a government meeting in the town of Handlova, about 85 miles north-east of the capital Bratislava.
MYANMAR: Armed forces personnel have shut down a major online scam operation near the border with Thailand, detaining more than 2,000 people and seizing dozens of Starlink satellite internet terminals, local media reported on Monday.
The centres are infamous for recruiting workers from other countries under false pretences, promising them legitimate jobs and then holding them captive and forcing them to carry out criminal activities.
SUDAN: A drone attack hit an area near Sudan’s international airport in Khartoum today.
This came a day before the airport was set to resume domestic flights for the first time since the civil war broke out in the country in 2023.
There is no information on casualties or damage and there has been no claim of responsibility.
