IRAN: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) board of governors urged Tehran today to “extend full and prompt co-operation,” provide the United Nations agency’s inspectors with “precise information” about its stockpile of near weapons-grade uranium and grant access to Iran’s nuclear sites.

Nineteen countries on the 35-member IAEA board voted for the resolution.

Russia, China and Niger opposed it, while 12 countries abstained and one did not vote.

PHILIPPINES: A former mayor was convicted of human trafficking charges today for helping establish an illegal online gaming complex in a northern province where hundreds of people were forced to conduct scams.

The Pasig city regional trial court in Manila sentenced Alice Guo, who was mayor of Bamban in Tarlac province, to life in prison with seven other Filipino and Chinese co-accused, fined them two million pesos (£26,000) each and ordered them to compensate several trafficking victims.

Ms Guo denied all the allegations against her.

CHINA: The country imported no soya beans from the United States in October, for the second consecutive month, according to official data published today.

However, total imports surged to a record high on purchases of soya beans from South America.

The data from China’s General Administration of Customs showed that 541,434 tonnes of soya beans were imported from the US in 2024.

SPAIN: The Supreme Court found Attorney General Alvaro Garcia Ortiz guilty today of leaking confidential information about the boyfriend of a leading right-wing politician and government rival.

The court banned Mr Garcia Ortiz, of the governing Socialist Party, from his post for two years following a five-to-two vote.
