Relatives bury the coffins containing the remains of Rozar David Christian and his wife, Rachnaben Rozar Christian, both victims of the Air India plane crash, at a cemetery in Ahmedabad, India, June 15, 2025

INDIA: Authorities have begun handing the remains of passengers killed on Thursday’s Air India flight to London Gatwick to their relatives.
Most of the 241 people on board and 29 on the ground killed in the crash are so burned as to be unidentifiable but bodies are gradually being identified via DNA analysis.

CHINA: Taiwan added mainland companies Huawei and semiconductor maker SMIC to an export control list today.
It means firms on the self-governing island, whose government is heir to the regime overthrown in mainland China by communist revolution in 1949, cannot sell to the companies without permission, and is in line with US efforts to isolate the People’s Republic of China economically.

NIGERIA: At least 100 people were killed by gunmen attacking the village of Yelewate in Benue state at the weekend.
Amnesty International said many families were locked in their homes and burned to death.
The perpetrators have not been identified, with some reports suggesting a clash between rival villages over land and water rather than an ideological attack such as those made by the Boko Haram terror group.

ITALY: Venetians are planning a swimming protest in the city’s famous lagoon on June 28 to obstruct Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’s wedding.
The tycoon has hired the whole of the city’s San Giorgio Maggiore for his nuptials but many residents say the star-studded event is offensive, especially given the city’s structural fragility.
The No Space for Bezos campaign says activists will swim around in the lagoon to obstruct guests trying to reach the island from hotels elsewhere in Venice.
