SYRIA: Authorities in Syria and Saudi Arabia announced 47 investment agreements, valued at over £4.4 billion, in Damascus today, marking a significant step in rebuilding Syria’s war-battered economy.

The agreements, signed at the Syrian-Saudi Investment Forum, cover a wide range of sectors including real estate, telecommunications and finance. Planned projects include housing, reconstruction of war-damaged areas and tourism.

CHINA: China and the European Union have issued a joint call to action on climate change during a bilateral summit in Beijing today.

The statement urged more emission cuts and greater use of green technology, with the two sides affirming their support for the Paris Climate Agreement as well as calling for strong action at the Cop30 climate summit in Brazil later this year.

UKRAINE: President Volodymyr Zelensky announced today that he’s sending a new anti-corruption Bill to Parliament, in an attempt to defuse a public outcry after he approved changes to corruption laws earlier this week.

Opponents of the contentious new law said that it stripped Ukraine’s anti-corruption watchdogs of their independence by granting the government more oversight.

UNITED STATES: A federal appeals court in San Francisco ruled that President Donald Trump’s order seeking to end birth right citizenship is unconstitutional on Wednesday, confirming a lower-court decision that had blocked its enforcement nationwide.

The ruling from a three-judge panel of the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals comes after Trump’s plan was also blocked by a federal judge in New Hampshire. The ruling brings the issue one step closer to coming back quickly before the Supreme Court.
