BRAZIL: Police are investigating several top allies of former President Jair Bolsonaro for allegedly trying to overturn the results of the 2022 election and searched their homes and offices today.
Mr Bolsonaro was not himself the target of a search but was ordered to forfeit his passport, an officer with knowledge of the operation told reporters.
SWEDEN: A senior member of the Swedish security police said today that Iran has planned attacks on the country, days after local media reported that two Iranians were deported for a plot to kill three Swedish Jews several years ago.
Earlier this week, Swedish broadcaster SR reported that two Iranians had been expelled from the country after being suspected of planning to kill members of the Swedish Jewish community.
FINLAND: Helsinki said today that it would extend the closure of its long border with Russia for another two months until April 14, because it sees no signs that Moscow was stopping its “hybrid operation” of allegedly funnelling migrants toward the frontier.
Finland closed the 832-mile land border late last year after about 1,300 migrants without proper documentation or visas had crossed the frontier since September.
EL SALVADOR: The political opposition in El Salvador warned on Wednesday that they could demand the voiding of the legislative election results due to irregularities.
Manuel Flores, presidential candidate of the left-wing Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front, said he planned to speak to other opposition parties about demanding that the results of the congressional elections be nullified, and that another round of voting be carried out on March 3, when local elections are held.
