NATO: Hungary’s parliament has voted to ratify Sweden’s bid to join the military alliance, removing in the final obstacle to Swedish membership after Turkey approved its application last month.
The vote, which passed with 188 votes for and six against, was the culmination of months of efforts by Hungary’s allies to convince Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s far-right government to stop blocking Sweden’s request.
WEST BANK: Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh has announced the resignation of his government, a move that will shake up the Palestinian Authority (PA) amid the war in Gaza.
President Mahmoud Abbas, whose forces were driven from Gaza by Hamas in 2007, has said that he would like the PA to govern the enclave after the war, but the idea is unpopular among Palestinians and has been rejected by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
EGYPT: At least 10 workers have died after a ferry carrying 15 labourers to a local construction firm sank in the Nile near the capital Cairo and rescue efforts failed.
The cause of the sinking was not immediately clear, but the Ministry of Manpower said it had allocated compensation of 200,000 Egyptian pounds (£5,099) to each family left bereaved and 20,000 (£510) to each of the five injured.
SOUTH KOREA: Striking junior doctors have four days to either end their walkouts or have their medical licences suspended and face prosecutions, the government has warned.
Vice Health Minister Park Min Soo said that the 9,000 workers who have been on strike since last week would not be held responsible if they returned to work by Thursday.
