INDIA: A fire ripped through a popular nightclub in India’s Goa state, killing 25 people, including tourists, the state’s chief minister said today.

The blaze occurred just past midnight in Arpora village in north Goa, a party hub, some 15-miles from the state capital, Panaji.

Goa’s chief minister Pramod Sawant said most of the dead were the club’s kitchen workers, as well as three to four tourists.


GREECE: At least 18 migrants attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea in an inflatable boat died when it capsized south of the island of Crete, Greek authorities said Saturday.

The half-sunken boat was located on Saturday by a passing Turkish merchant vessel, authorities said. Two survivors were rescued and a rescue operation to find more was ongoing.

Authorities have not yet determined where the boat came from.


MEXICO: An explosion outside a police station in Coahuayana in the western Mexican state of Michoacan on Saturday killed at least three people and wounded six, according to authorities.

The explosion came as the federal government has stepped up security activities in the state, sending in additional troops after two recent assassinations.


SOUTH AFRICA: A mass shooting carried out on Saturday by multiple suspects in an unlicensed bar near the South African capital left at least 12 people dead, police said. The victims included three children aged 3, 12 and 16.

Another 13 people were wounded and being treated in the hospital.

The shooting happened at a bar inside a hostel in the Saulsville township west of the administrative capital of Pretoria in the early hours of Saturday.
