MIGRATION: Rwanda confirmed today that it had received seven people from the United States in August as part of a deal allowing up to 250 transfers.

It is one of four African nations with deportation agreements, alongside Uganda, Eswatini and South Sudan.

The Trump administration has come under scrutiny over its secretive deals with the African countries, which have seen people sent to countries where some face prison or solitary confinement.

AID: Malawi is facing a critical shortage of tuberculosis drugs, with stocks expected to run out by the end of September, following cuts to aid spending by the US, UK and other donors.

The health ministry said disruptions in global supply chains, coupled with declining aid, mean some patients could be left without treatment.

The warning comes months after the World Health Organisation hailed a 40 per cent fall in tuberculosis cases in the impoverished nation over the past decade.

PROTEST: Microsoft has fired two US employees for joining a sit-in at the office of company president Brad Smith over its ties to Israel, amid the genocide in Gaza.

Anna Hattle and Riki Fameli received voicemails informing them that they were fired, the protest group No Azure for Apartheid said in a statement.

The firm said the workers were terminated following “serious breaches of company policies and our code of conduct [during the] break-in at the executive offices.”

CLIMATE: Floods in Pakistan’s Punjab province have displaced nearly 250,000 people after three major rivers burst their banks today following heavy rains and dam releases in India.

Officials said more than one million people were affected, with crops and businesses destroyed.

At least 15 people were killed in Gujranwala district this week, with more than 800 deaths across the country since June – and forecasters warn more rain is expected from tomorrow into next week.
