PAKISTAN: The Supreme Court found today that the party of imprisoned former prime minister Imran Khan has been improperly denied at least 20 reserved seats in parliament.
The ruling was hailed by Mr Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, which had been excluded from a system that gives parties extra seats reserved for women and minorities in the National Assembly.
NETHERLANDS: A court has rejected a claim by a group of human rights organisations that the government is defying a court order to stop sending F-35 fighter jet parts to Israel, which could use them in Gaza.
The Hague District Court ruled that Oxfam Novib, Pax Nederland and The Rights Forum had not shown any evidence that the Dutch government was ignoring the earlier ruling.
AUSTRALIA: An army private and her husband accused of spying for Russia were denied bail today by a court considering the first charges against suspected operatives under Australia’s sweeping espionage laws enacted in 2018.
Kira and Igor Korolev are Russian-born Australian citizens and hold Russian passports. They did not appear in person and were represented by lawyers at Brisbane magistrates’ court.
NEPAL: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal lost a confidence vote in parliament today after the largest party in his coalition government withdrew its support, which could now force him to step down after 19 months in power.
He had to move the confidence motion after the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist) decided to pull out last week.
