THE Tories were accused today of “chasing Farage’s coat-tails” after party leader Kemi Badenoch branded the Scottish government’s immigration stance “not remotely serious.”
Writing in the Daily Mail ahead of her address to the Scottish Tory conference in Edinburgh today, Ms Badenoch took aim at the SNP Scottish government’s calls for a more liberal approach to immigration amid ongoing skills and labour shortages.
Ms Badenoch made it clear that controls would only tighten further should she ever gain power.
In a swipe at Holyrood politicians, she added: “The SNP’s stance, in particular, is not remotely serious.
“If they ever got their way, they would put our citizens’ security at risk.”
Hitting back, SNP MSP Rona Mackay MSP said: “Kemi Badenoch’s comments are as predictable as they are misinformed – another step in the Tories’ lurch to the right as they chase Farage’s coat-tails.
“Scotland faces a demographic crisis, not an invasion, yet Westminster parties continue to scapegoat migrants instead of addressing the real challenges facing Scottish communities.”
