
MEN’S FOOTBALL: Racing Club beat Velaz Sarsfield 1-0 in Wednesday’s all-Argentinian clash for a 2-0 aggregate win and became the first team through to the semi-finals of the Copa Libertadores, South America’s equivalent to the Champions League. The quarter-final matches continue tomorrow morning when Brazil’s Palmeiras defend a 2-1 first leg over Argentina’s River Plate and Sao Paulo need to overturn a 2-0 deficit against Liga de Quito.
WOMEN’S BOXING: Ellie Scotney will meet Mexico’s Mayelli Flores-Rosquero in Miami on November 14 for the undisputed super-bantanweight world title. Scotney is unbeaten in 11 career bouts and currently holds the IBF, WBO and WBC belts, while WBA title holder Flores-Rosquero has a loss and draw on her 15-fight record. Only two British women boxers, Chantelle Cameron and Savannah Marshall have previously held all four titles.
MEN’S CRICKET: There will be no changes to next year’s County Championship after it was announced on Tuesday evening that a proposal to increase division one to 12 teams and reduce the amount of games played was not approved by a clear majority of the 18 first-class counties. There are currently 10 teams in division one and eight in division two, with two promotion and relegation spots each season.
