
MEN’S BOXING: British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Fabio Wardley knocked out Justis Huni in the tenth round to win the WBA interim title in Ipswich on Saturday night.
Despite being outboxed, Wardley improved his record to 19 wins and one draw while former world youth champion Huni suffered a first loss in 13 bouts.
In Barnsley, Callum Simpson stopped Italy’s Ivan Zucco in the tenth round to win the European super-middleweight belt.
MEN’S FOOTBALL: Wales take a three-match unbeaten World Cup qualifying run into Monday night’s Group J match in Belgium.
The Welsh currently sit 29th in the world rankings, 21 places below their opponents but haven’t lost since Craig Bellamy became manager in July 2024.
Monday afternoon’s Group J kick-off sees North Macedonia, who are also unbeaten after three games, facing Kazakhstan in Astana.
RUGBY LEAGUE: Hours after Hull KR had left it late to edge out Warrington 8-6 and pick up the Challenge Cup trophy, Liam Harris scored an extra time drop-kick to earn York a 5-4 golden point win over Featherstone in the 1895 Cup final.
Earlier in the day, Wigan’s women thrashed St Helens 42-6 to win the Challenge Cup for the first time. All three of Saturday’s finals were played at Wembley.
MEN’S RUGBY UNION:
Leinster ran in six tries as they beat defending champions Glasgow 37-19 in Saturday’s United Rugby Championship play-off semi-final.
The Irishmen, who had lost at this stage in the last three seasons, will face Pretoria’s Bulls in next weekend’s final at Croke Park, Dublin.
The Bulls beat Durban’s Sharks 25-13 in their last-four clash. Leinster topped the regular season table, finishing eight points clear of the Bulls.
