THE public parole hearing for one of Stephen Lawrence’s killers has been delayed, it was revealed today.
David Norris was due to make a bid for release this week, but the hearing has been adjourned due to unspecified information not being made available to the parole panel.
Mr Norris was jailed for life in 2012, with a minimum term of 14 years and three months, after he and Gary Dobson were convicted of the racist murder – nearly 20 years after the 18-year-old was killed in Eltham, south-east London.
A Parole Board statement said: “Without all proper information, the panel cannot consider a parole review.
“The panel’s priority must be to ensure the relevant information is available, so that they can thoroughly review the potential risks and ensure public protection.”
A new date will be set for the public hearing once the information has been provided.
Stephen was attacked by a gang of five or six men in April 1993, but decades of incompetence and allegations of police corruption hampered the course of justice.
Mr Norris recently admitted being at the scene and punching Stephen, but denied stabbing him.
His parole hearing was made public following a media application backed by Stephen’s parents.
