A SURVEY of primary school headteachers in West Yorkshire has revealed a “perfect storm” of problems caused by underfunding.
More than 40 responded to the survey by the Calderdale Against School Cuts (CASC) campaign group, with the concerns expressed including an inability to meet children’s needs, cuts to repairs and maintenance and potential teacher redundancies.
Ninety-six per cent said they were worried about balancing their school’s budget over the next three years and 80 per cent reported being unable to replace staff who leave.
The survey also found that 48 per cent face making support staff redundant and 37 per cent plan to make teachers redundant this year.
CASC spokeswoman Sue McMahon said: “The school funding crisis hasn’t disappeared and hardship isn’t on hold.
“As funding has not kept up with costs, schools face having to cut the essentials and reduce adult support when the need for such support continues to increase.”
The Department for Education was contacted for comment.
