PLAID CYMRU called on the next Westminster government to recognise the state of Palestine today.
Party leader Rhun ap Iorwerth said that it was time for Britain to show some “moral leadership” amid the horrors unfolding daily in Gaza.
“This would send a clear signal that the UK supports the Palestinian people’s fundamental rights, free from the inhumane conditions currently being imposed upon them,” he said.
Mr ap Iorwerth made the comments after attending the pro-Palestine student encampment at Cardiff University on Wednesday with local Plaid Cymru candidate Sharifah Rahman.
Ms Rahman, a campaigner for peace and Palestinian rights, said: “As a party, we stand alongside countless international groups, nations, and peoples across the world in condemning in the strongest possible terms the murder of tens of thousands of innocent civilians in the region.”
Last November the Welsh Parliament backed a Plaid Cymru motion to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Four Labour members and the Welsh Conservatives opposed, with 13 abstentions from Labour ministers.
