Plaid call for a Wales leaders' debate with Sunak and Starmer

PLAID CYMRU challenged Rush Sunak and Sir Keir Starmer to debate with its party leader about Wales today.

The Welsh nationalists’ campaign’s political head Liz Saville Roberts has written to the Labour and Conservative leaders urging them to come to Wales to debate with Rhun ap Iorwerth.

Ms Saville Roberts said voters deserve “a full picture” of the democratic choices facing them and any debate excluding Plaid would “mislead viewers in Wales about the choice faced by them in this election.

“Given the weak media landscape in Wales, this election is framed through an English lens. But as your parties call the shots when it comes to broadcasters’ decisions for debates in this election, you must show leadership.”

Ms Saville Roberts challenged the two leaders to defend and debate their own parties’ record in Wales, including the management of the Welsh NHS and the underfunding of public services.

The Labour and the Conservative parties were asked for a response.
