A NEW documentary exposing the erosion of protest rights in Britain through the eyes of climate activists will hit screens later this month.
The Line We Crossed, directed by award-winning filmmaker Liz Smith, will roll out in cinemas from June 23.
The film gives an insight into activists on the front lines of environmental protest, including Marcus Decker, who was sentenced for two years and seven months for climbing the QEII Bridge, and Trudi Warner, who was arrested for standing silently outside a court holding a sign affirming the independence of juries.
Ms Smith said: “During the making of this film I witnessed first-hand the extent to which environmental defenders are being silenced and criminalised in the UK for non-violent protest.
“The right to non-violent protest is a fundamental plank of a well-functioning democracy, and to put it bluntly, from what I have witnessed, we have now lost that right in the UK.
”This is something that everyone in the UK should be worried about.”
