A NEW law to teach anti-communism in United States schools was branded as “disgusting” yesterday.
The new Crucial Communism Teaching Act passed last week in the House of Representatives, with the support of members of the Democratic and Republican Parties, mandates the teaching of anti-communism and anti-China propaganda in US schools.
The curriculum for the Act will be based on educational material prepared by the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation (VOCMF), an anti-communist propaganda group which refers to Nazis killed by the Red Army during World War II as “victims of communism.”
The new law, passed by 372 votes to 62, with support from both Democrats and Republicans, mandates that US school students should be “taught,” among other things, about “the treatment of Uighurs,” and the “actions taken by China to deter pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong.”
The Socialist Party of America called the Act “disgusting,” and said it “conflates fascism and nationalism with socialism and communism, whitewashing Nazism and painting Adolf Hitler as the same as Martin Luther King, Eugene Debs, Albert Einstein, Helen Keller, Carl Sagan and Thomas Paine.”
French writer Arnaud Bertrand, who lives in China, said: “China’s educational approach toward the US and its system shows much greater receptivity and balance than is currently being demonstrated in the reverse direction.”
