SCOTTISH Green co-leader has insisted the SNP-Green government make clear it “does not share the values of Sir Brian Souter.”
Patrick Harvie made the remarks to the Daily Record after it emerged that Sir Brian had helped organise a dinner last year for First Minister Humza Yousaf’s “reset” with business leaders.
The anti-union bus tycoon behind Stagecoach was SNP’s largest donor until Nicola Sturgeon took the leadership in 2014, but it was his decision 14 years earlier to publicly fund a campaign to fight the scrapping of Clause 2A banning “promoting homosexuality” in schools which has now raised concerns.
Mr Harvie said: “If it’s just about involvement in a government business event, you don’t have to insist that someone supports your politics in order to take part.
“But what has to be really, really clear is that not just my party, but the Scottish government, does not share the values of Brian Souter.”
Responding to questions on Sir Brian on Friday, Mr Yousaf said the event was to ensure business leaders knew “they’ve got an open door to speak to me, speak to my ministers,” adding: “Brian will be treated no differently to any other businessman or businesswoman.”
