LONG-RUNNING strikes at museums and galleries in Liverpool have come to an end after staff secured an improved offer from management

Members of the PCS union at National Museums Liverpool took more than 60 days of strike action after their employer withheld a £1,500 cost-of-living payment, which was part of the government’s pay offer for 2022-23.

Closures affected the Museum of Liverpool, the World Museum, the International Slavery Museum and the Maritime Museum, as well as the Walker Gallery, Sudley House and the Lady Lever Art Gallery.

Staff have now voted to accept a one-off £1,200 cost-of-living payment, two extra days’ holiday a year and a 35 per cent discount in museum cafes.

PCS general secretary Fran Heathcote congratulated the workers, saying: “They stood firm through many months of strike action and have now been rewarded with a significant sum and extra benefits.

“This victory shows there is power in a union.”
