A Labour Scottish government would work ‘hand in hand’ with EU
Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar during First Minister's Questions at the Scottish Parliament in Holyrood, Edinburgh, October 10, 2024

A LABOUR Scottish government would work “hand in hand” with the European Union, according to Anas Sarwar.

The Scottish labour leader made the remarks today while on a visit to Germany to meet members of the ruling Social Democratic Party.

Despite Labour having rejected calls to re-enter a customs union or the EU single market, Mr Sarwar said: “The UK Labour government has worked tirelessly to reset our relationship with our European neighbours.

“Scotland has so much to offer Europe, from world-class research facilities to Scottish whisky and other world-renowned brands.

“Scottish Labour is serious about resetting the relationship with the EU and the benefits that it could bring to Scotland.

“A Scottish Labour government at Holyrood would work hand-in-hand with the UK government and with the EU to deliver for Scotland.”

Vince Mills of Radical Options for Scotland and Europe told the Morning Star: “Any relationship we have with the EU, whether at Scottish or UK level, must not give up the freedoms on state intervention in the economy and democratic ownership of it won through Brexit.

“Labour’s priority in government must be using those freedoms for the greater good.”
