Ireland hammered by Bangladesh in first ODI

IRELAND Women lost by 154 runs to Bangladesh in the first one-day international in Mirpur.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, the home side amassed 252 for four from their 50 overs.

Sharmin Akhter fell four runs short of a century while opener Fargana Hoque scored 61 as Bangladesh posted a strong total.

Ireland never came close in their reply, losing wickets regularly, including two in successive balls to Marufa Akter in the third over that set the tone.

Only three batters made it into double figures, with Sarah Forbes top-scoring with 25, and Ireland were all out for only 98 inside 30 overs.

The second ODI of the three-match series takes place on Saturday.
