AN INVESTIGATION was launched today into the death of a worker at the Atlantic Recycling site in Cardiff on Monday.
The South Wales Police investigation followed the death of a man from his injuries after emergency services were called to the recycling centre on Monday afternoon.
South Wales Police Sergeant Richard Hill said: “We would like to offer our condolences to the family of the man who sadly lost his life.
“Our aim now, together with the Health & Safety Executive, is to carry out a robust investigation and establish the cause of this tragic incident.”
An HSE spokesperson said: “We are aware of the incident and are assisting the SWP investigation.”
The Dauson Environmental Group, which owns the site, said the man was a contractor carrying out maintenance.
The company, which has been convicted twice of environmental offences, is at the centre of the £200,000 donation row involving First Minister Vaughan Gething.
A recent Channel 4 documentary also alleged the company mislabels its waste, which could mean it pays less in landfill taxes to the Welsh government.
