International delegation from Peru arrives in London campaigning for justice for those killed by state police and military

AN international delegation from Peru has arrived in London campaigning for justice for 50 victims killed by the state’s police and military during anti-government protests in 2022-23.

The delegation includes members of some of the deceased’s families and will meet MPs in their campaign.

They will also visit Madrid and Geneva and are supported by human rights organisation Amnesty International.

The protests followed the ousting of president Pedro Castillo on December 7 2022 and the installation of a new government under President Dina Boluarte.

Protesters included indigenous people and left groups.

Marina Navarro, Amnesty International Peru executive director, said: “International pressure and solidarity are more important than ever at this key moment in the judicial process.

“On the eve of the second anniversary of state repression, the Peruvian president and Congress must know that the world is still watching and that the victims’ call for justice is heard globally.”
